9/21 Lake Orion vs Royal Oak- W 20-6

The Dragons continued their winning ways in a hard fought game against a solid Royal Oak team by a score of 20 to 6. The Ravens came out and opened the scoring on the first drive of the game. After the Raven touchdown, Dragon special team dominance began. Matt Turner blocked the PAT attempt making the score 6 to 0 in favor of the home Ravens. On the Dragon's ensuing possession, they converted a key 3rd down and long play when Chad Nieswand caught a 15 yard pass from Ryan Broth to keep the drive moving. After a long Cortez McKinnely run followed by a James Miller run, the Dragons cashed in on their opening drive of the game when Cortez McKinnley scored on a run from 3 yards out. Evan Moran's kick was good and the Dragon's were ahead 7 to 6. Both teams continued to slug in out, trading possession after possession of great defense and no scoring. The Dragons went into the half up by 1 on the Ravens. The 2nd half seemed to be all Lake Orion, when early in the 3rd quarter, quarterback Ryan Broth scooted around the end on a keeper, untouched for a 39 yard touchdown run. With the conversion good the Dragons were up 14 to 6. The Lake Orion defense continued to stymie the Raven running attack. On 4th down, and the Ravens punting, a fumbled snap gave the Dragon offense the ball deep in Royal Oak territory with the chance to go up by two scores. The Dragons did just that, when the elusive Ryan Broth again scored on a run. The point after failed resulting in the Dragons 20 and Royal Oak 6. The defense took over, not allowing the Ravens to pose much of a threat for the rest of the game. A key interception by Robbie Lentz stopped one Raven drive and gave Lake Orion a chance to grind the Ravens down a little more. Royal Oak failed to score on its last possession, the Dragons took a knee, and the clock hit zeros. The win moves the Dragons to 3-2 overall on the year and 3-1 in the OAA Red Division. Next week the Dragons play away at Troy Athens in an important league game.
