10/24/08 Lake Orion vs Clarkston W 17-14
The Dragons finished the regular season with their traditional rivalry game against the Clarkston Wolves. This time the Dragons came out on top of the Wolves with a hard fought victory in a 17 to 14 nail biter.
Looking back at History, since 1950 these 2 teams have each won 20 times in the 40 games they have played against each other. In the past 3 years the Dragons and Wolves have played each other twice, both in the regular season and the playoffs, and that is likely to happen again this year. There have been many close and exciting games between these 2 teams and this year was no exception.
The Wolves started the scoring early when they blocked a punt on the opening Dragon possession and started their first drive from the Dragon 30 yard line. Clarkston was able to run the option with success early in the game and scored a few plays later to take a 7 to 0 lead. The Dragons battled back in the second quarter by scoring a touchdown on a 5 yard run by Eric Knoblock and a 31 yard field goal by Jeff Heath. The Dragons took a 10 to 7 lead into the locker room at halftime.
In the third quarter the Dragons increased their lead with a long drive that included 40 yards in penalties against the Dragons and ended with another Knoblock 5 yard TD run. The Dragons were now on top by 10. The Wolves would not quit and fought back to score another TD in the 4th quarter and bring the score to 17-14, Dragons.
With time running out the Wolves got one last chance and gave the Dragons a scare. In the end the Dragon defense was too tough and allowed the Wolves to get no closer than the 25 yard line before turning the ball over on downs. The Dragons then ran out the final seconds and celebrated the hard fought win.
The Dragons will now move on to the State Playoffs for the 8th consecutive year and the 11th time in the last 12 years. Pass your candy out early, or come out for the second half next week on Halloween night as the Dragons will be at home for the opening round of the playoffs.
