The 2008 season started out with a very tough game against a perennial state contender, the Rockford Rams.  The game was played at Eastern Michigan University’s Rynearson Stadium.  A very nice crown traveled from both Rockford, near Grand Rapids, and Lake Orion to see this game between 2 teams coming off playoff seasons in 2007. 
The game started with both teams punting on their first drives.  On the 2nd drive by the Dragons a miscue on a punt gave Rockford the ball on the 3 yard line.  The Rams punched it in to take a 7-0 lead.  The wind was strong throughout the game and the field position battle was greatly affected by which direction we were headed.  In the 2nd quarter with the wind at our backs the Dragons were able to sustain a drive down deep into Rockford territory.  With the ball on the Rockford 11, on 4th down, the Dragon's freshman quarterback Sean Charette, tossed a pass to Captain, wide receiver, Mike Heath for a touchdown.  The extra point was good by Heath and the game was tied at 7.  Late in the first half Rockford drove the ball to the 2 yard line.  The Defense lead by co-captains, AJ Gill and Robby Lentz, was able to hold Rockford to only a Field goal.  The half time score was Rockford 10 and Lake Orion 7.
In the 2nd half the Dragons had difficulty moving the ball.  Rockford continued to win the field position battle.  In the 4th quarter Rockford started a drive from the Lake Orion 41 yard line that ended with a touchdown and gave them a 17-7 lead and stood as the final score.
Overall the Dragon Defense played a solid game against a very big and strong Rockford team.  The Dragon Offense showed signs of strength.  The Offensive line anchored by the only returning starter on the line, Center and co-captain, Tyler Benson, held there own.  Junior Derrick Coe and Freshman Sean Charette, split time at the quarterback position, while leading the teams new spread offense.
